Reading Intervention
At our school, we use the SIPPS® (Systematic Instruction in Phonological Awareness, Phonics, and Sight Words) program as part of our reading intervention to support students who need additional help developing foundational literacy skills.
SIPPS is a structured, research-based program designed to help students in grades K–12 become confident and independent readers. It focuses on:
Phonological Awareness – Helping students recognize and work with sounds in spoken language
Phonics and Decoding – Teaching the relationship between sounds and letters so students can read unfamiliar words
Sight Words – Building automatic recognition of high-frequency words to support reading fluency
Fluency and Comprehension – Encouraging smooth, expressive reading and understanding of text
SIPPS provides daily, explicit, and systematic instruction that is tailored to each student's reading level. Whether a student is just beginning to read or is working to catch up with grade-level expectations, SIPPS meets them where they are and moves them forward with success.
Our goal with SIPPS is to build strong readers who feel confident, capable, and ready to tackle more complex texts as they grow.
